In the past, Daylight Saving Time (DST) was never a problem to me. It begins, this year, on March 11 and will ends on November 4th. I never thought it will affect my life at all, but it did on Sunday, March 11th, 2018 at 2 am.
On Saturday, I decided to go out to Karaoke with a few friends in Chinatown. We went to the biggest karaoke place called K-One. I’ve been there several times and my friends are all loyal customers. Their equipment is nice and up-to-date with the current trend of songs. I love singing, especially Chinese and Taiwanese songs that I grew up with. But this time, my experience at K-One has gone horribly wrong!
My fancy friends ordered red wine instead of hard liquor because it’s easier to consume. We only had red wine. BTW, one bottle of Chateau St. Michelle costs $88 at K-One where it only cost no more than $10 to purchase at the liquor store. (Resource: Wine-Searcher) It’s already ridiculous enough that they charge so much for wine, what’s about to happen is much much worse. After 2 bottles, for 8 people, one server came in the room with our rental contract asking to speak with one of us. All the men went out the room to figure out the issue. After a while, my girlfriends and I heard arguments in the hallway. Apparently, the servers are accusing that one of us threw up in the bathroom and made a mess. They accused us because the vomits were red looking like red wine and we are the only group of people who ordered red wine.
None of us, all 8 of us, were drunk enough to puke. We were all wide awake and quite sober. And definitely, we would know if one of us threw up because it will stink. The guys argued back because the servers have no proof of what happened. The servers simply want us to pay the $100 fine for making a mess. Money is not an issue, it’s our self-esteem. When we know that we are right and someone else makes false accusation, it’s very hurtful. My friends were very angry that this actually happened to us. They are all loyal customers who trust K-One and recommended more friends to visit. Trust goes both ways! When a someone makes a wrongful accusation or when a business does something wrong to mess up your happy experience, you lose that trust!
That’s not all! Because of DST, we lost one hour of singing. And they still charged us for the full hours of singing. In a regular situation, 10 pm to 3 am is 5 hours. But because of DST, they charged us 5 hours for 4 hours of singing. We complained, but they said it’s how they do business. Excuse me, so you mean people will have one extra hour in November when DST ends??
So, yup, I had a horrible experience with DST on Sunday…
