Hey guys , since this my last blog post for Comm 345 I felt like reflecting on this semester because it has been a semester of new things I wanna reflect on my first blog post ” Overcoming fear in Comm345 while balancing life ” where I was lamenting
AST at “Relay for Life 2017”
over being scared of this class and Professor Scheckel. But the truth was that I was afraid to put myself out there because I was scared. So, I made a pact with myself to push myself get out there and I’ve never regretted it because I made some really great friends, my grades are better and I joined a freaking sorority.
If you’d have asked me 2 years ago if I would have seen myself where I am now I would not only laugh in your face but ask if that was even possible. My last semester at my other school wasn’t that great and it shattered my confidence a little so coming to NYIT I was apprehensive what if I fail ? what if people don’t like me ? But that was just my fear talking and I am so glad I didn’t let it win because I wouldn’t have met my awesome sister.
So don’t let fear or your wild thoughts keep you from experiencing what could be one of the best things you ever do. Comm 345 it was a pleasure sharing with you this semester , I kinda like blogging (you know when I have a topic to write about) I might just set up a blog. Well this is it, Good Luck on your Finals guys …. KICK ASS !!!
Hey guys, so a while back I wrote “ When a Loner joins a sorority” and at that point I was just a pledge trying to feel out things. Well I’m proud to say that now I’m an OFFICIAL member of Alpha Sigma Tau. The process itself was very tedious and the history is very rich and involve some kickass females.
When I first got initiated , it felts so surreal at first because I though that the girls were nice but too nice. So, I though what gives? Are they faking all this ? Am I being punked? Like where is Ashton Kutcher and the camera crew but we had a heart to heart session where everyone was honest and open, tears were shed and that day I realized that they are just like me , regular girls with their own personal issues and little insecurities.
After that day I felt closer to each and everyone of them and just knew that I made the right decision by choosing this sorority. They believe in and empower each other, they stick together and support one another it just so cool because girls like these are hard to find in a world of barbies and Kim Kardashian. These girls are fun, comical and a tad bit crazy but not my level of crazy but I can’t wait to help them bring out that of inner crazy 🙂
Hey Guys, so if you don’t know by now I’m a Jamaican. Born and raised there I left at the age of 14 and I haven’t been back since. I’ve just been busy that’s all , but when I went to high school the type of questions that I was bombarded with were so ridiculous it had me questioning the minds of out American teen (I still do). So I’m here to squash stereotypical sayings about Jamaican. You ready?
Myth 1. We don’t live in huts: Yeah I know what you are thinking “people have asked you that or really you guys don’t”. And to answer your questions yes someone has asked me that and we don’t. I grew up in a lovely home that my parents had built around the time my older sister was about 6. There are mostly of houses on the beautiful island , the only huts are on the beach for shade from the sun.
Myth 2. All Jamaicans don’t have dreads: Dreads are normally worn for either religious purposes or just a stress free hairstyle. Rastas who practice Rastafarianism (yes that’s actually a religion Bob Marley was a practitioner) and its a practice of theirs that’s the only reason why they have dreads
Myth 3. Marijuana is not our national plant: Just because our country has the perfect climate to harvest marijuana doesn’t mean that everything we do involves it. And let me just clear up other myths: Jamaicans are not pot heads nor do we all just smoke marijuana all day everyday and everywhere we go. SURPRISE ! Marijuana is also illegal in Jamaica , if you are caught with more than a quarter (7 grams) you can go to jail. So when you vacation there and people
Myth 4. Not all Jamaicans can run fast: Yes we have the fastest man in world but that doesn’t equal to all Jamaicans are fast. Look at me , I’m not athletic at all ( and no it’s not because I came here to live). You being born in a country where Usain Bolt is from doesn’t mean that you are fast as well. Just because Donald Trump is president doesn’t mean we are all umpa lumpas.
Last but not least Myth 5. There’s no language called Jamaican: We have an accent and we may talk fast but Jamaican is not a language. But we do speak with our own Creole dialect which is really broken down English so please for the sake of you not being embarrassed in front of Jamaicans because we will laugh at you to your face , don’t ask us to speak Jamaican.
And there you have it folks 5 myths about Jamaicans, I hope I have answered some of your questions or destroyed any of you stereotypes. Thanks for Reading….
Day 2 of behind-the-scene still
Hey Guys, I was going to talk about the mental abuse I experienced from a certain midterm I had to take that had two-part (a paper and a conversation). Like who does a conversation in front of the whole class but I’m recovering now, I’m getting some therapy now so prayerfully I’ll recover from such oppression.
But my therapist said it’s important to move on from the tragedy so I’ll just talk about my first solo film project. So today, I wrapped my first solo short film and it was the most exhilarating experience ever ! My sister and I have been in pre-production ( planning stages) for our YouTube page since 2013 and we wrapped our 1st video today.
I’ve always wanted to work on solo projects outside my high school’s rigorous film curriculum, where we weren’t held down by industry structure, just to make a film for the fun of it. And when we started , everything seemed impossible with my older sister trying to finish her engineering degree and me trying to finish high school and apply for colleges.
But with high school in the past and a handle on college, I was ready to work and push through any obstacle that presented itself. So we planned and got our schedules together and started filming. Our actor is a guy we knew from church and his house is amazing so we had a location that we were free to film at anytime we wanted. Then everything just seemed to fall into place and today when we wrapped it just feels surreal and I just Thank God that He did let me give on my passion. So don’t give up on yours. Hey guys, so quick question have you ever been to a paint n’ sip event ? Yes? No? Maybe? Well if you did aren’t they awesome and if you haven’t been you should totally attend one. A paint n’ sip event is exactly how it sounds, you got you paint and sip on wine (or juice its not mandatory). I attend/planned one for my older sister’s birthday earlier in the month and it was relaxing. I felt like an artist for an whole evening but that quickly faded into a five year old. But it stated out well , our instructor Heidi was very nice and she was very encouraging even if you felt that your painting sucked. On the right is a pic I took after the event was done and I was proud that I put myself out there even thought I thought my painting sucked. I started off pretty good but that darn tree was so hard to paint then it started to look like a ghost but Heidi tried her best help me. Also I very surprised to see how inexpensive these events are , all you have to do is bring your own booze (being a lil buzz can DEFINITELY alter your vision so be careful). Go with friends, family or both just go try something new and enjoy it.
Hey Guy, as Spring SLOWLY makes it’s way to New York City we can start to wear out bright and blush colors and don’t forget that floral print. Speaking of floral print , flowers are going to be blooming and they are going to be everywhere. For “normal” girls roses are the best flowers or the only flowers that exist because most movies or romance novel the guy always bring the girl a bunch of roses. But not every girl is ROSE type of female, like my favorite flower is a lily or lilium as its scientific name. A lily represents peace and
strength, as a female you’d kinda want it to represent yourself. So ladies don’t just be a rose type of girl, there are approximately 400,000 types of flowers out there according to Google so pick one . Not just any flower but one that represents your personality and you’d be surprise by what you discover.

Hey Guys, the weekend is already over plus the time changed so we have more daytime than night. Great! now we have less sleep at night, but in all seriousness why is it Sunday night already. I feel like I just left class on Friday now I’m sitting here, Sunday night, working on a presentation among other things for class tomorrow. But I had a crazy weekend starting from Friday, I woke went to class and from class I left to go to a film shoot that I was working on. So, I did the shoot (which went smoothly) and wrapped for the day, so I left and went straight to church to help my mother decorate for an event the next day. We finished decorating around 2:30 Saturday morning after dropping home others that helped, I was finally in my bed at 3:30 am. I finally got up at 9 and went to the event at church around 10:30, I work in the multimedia department at my church so we are in charge of filming the services and most events, making sure the sound throughout the building is on point and that whatever slides or videos are up at the appropriate time. This type of work is normally done by a man because it’s basically a technician job, another technician (who is male and a teenager) and I are working and my fellow technician left so I was holding down the fort by myself. The event’s host requested for some music, I put in a CD and music came blazing through the speakers and I tried EVERYTHING to lower it (it was just a glitch that we finally figure it out) but nothing worked and I have 10 people yell at me to turn it down. When we finally fixed it and the crowd dispersed, I gave myself a mental high-five for not cracking under pressure. Then a man comes into my tech room and with disgust he say “who is running this room”, I looked at him and said ” I am”. He then looks at me and said “okay” then walks off. This isn’t the first time I’ve experienced male chauvinistic behavior but this one just really rubbed me the wrong way and then on top of that I had to two services back to back. So, then I went home and went straight to bed. Woke up the early the next day for church. Now were here at Sunday night doing homework, tired as hell and hungry.
