The last time I wrote about attending a Knicks game it was my friends first, we were in Brooklyn, had good seats and got a selfie with one of our favorite rookie players. We knew it wouldn’t be our last and we just had to wait for the right moment to get to another game. It was also our first time attempting to meet some of the players so we were still figuring a lot of things out. Who knew it would get so crazy so quickly!
About 1.5 months later we find the Knicks pretty much out of the playoff run, the sixth worst team in the NBA, yet we were still wanting to attend more games. We had attended a couple more but really wanted to go out with a bang on our last of the season. We wanted to get insane seats (at the right price) but nothing was coming up. We had a motto, “everything happens for a reason,” and it didn’t seem like it was meaning to happen. Two hours before the game I get a text from my friend that she’d found seats right behind the Knicks bench. Next thing you know the players are within an arm’s reach from us.
We were BESIDE ourselves with excitement and also feeling overwhelmed. We had access to the Delta Club where people basically treated you like you were important and the full buffet of food laid out for us was on another level. You would never want to settle for chicken fingers and fries after seeing the array of dishes to choose from. During warm ups we went to see the view from our seats and we would be rubbing shoulders with players just sitting on the bench.
You almost had to be extra aware of your actions knowing you would 100% end up being shown on TV. I would wait for the same to shift cross court to shove the cotton candy in my mouth before they came back over to our side with camera pointing at us again. But, during time outs when the players would huddle with the coach as they went over plays, we would pretty much feel part of that huddle since we were so close. This was definitely, without a doubt, the best game experience I’d ever had.
If you know me, you know I can never settle for just seeing my favorite athlete or singer. I had to try and meet them too. My friend and I had attempted a couple times in the past but it didn’t go s planned. We just went back to our motto and reminded ourselves that it just wasn’t meant to be in that moment. But we knew better than to give up and by the end of the season we ended up meeting all of our favorite players (one of which knows us now) and have already started planning for the next season. Can’t wait to see what
crazy shenanigans we pull off in the 2017-18 season!
