If you’re a music lover like me, you’ve probably at least heard of The Rolling Stones (please tell me you have!). And if you take the subway or at least walk around the city you have definitely seen ads ALL OVER for Exhibitionism: The Rolling Stones. The exhibit made it’s debut in London last year and I had the privilege of visiting while I was in London over the summer. It was such an immersive exhibit you actually felt like you were traveling with the band and part of their crew. While I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit in London, I secretly hoped they eventually brought exhibitionism to New York City so I could visit again.
Exhibitionism has made its way to NYC and as you probably predicted, I paid The Rolling Stones yet another visit. I got so excited I felt like I was going to implode and made my way to Industria, where the exhibit is being held. While in the London exhibit they were really strict about no photography of any kind so I was bursting when I found out photography is allowed in NYC (good thing I finally got my 128gb iPhone). I took every possible photo I could possibly take at every angle and made sure I posed like Mick Jagger in front of the Andy Warhol art room deep into the journey of Exhibitionism.
You were truly taken on the journey from the very beginnings of The Rolling Stones, from their first home together to their first performance as a band in a small club in London. You walked with them through their writing session in the studio, to preparing for world tours, to wardrobe and everything in between. The artifacts in the exhibit are original, all from The Rolling Stone’s archives, which gave me the chills. Seeing this history right in front of you really transported you into their story and you couldn’t help but feel immersed and exited, even if you aren’t a fan of theirs. It’s a musical journey a lot of artists can relate to and being lead into these rooms by chronological order of their careers gave you a sense of being right beside them the entire time. I highly recommend this for ANY music lover out there who wants to feel inspired or just simply loves music.
Exhibitionism is only around for another month in NYC, so if you have a free day in the city, or have a friend visiting who’s looking for something cool to do THIS IS THE PLACE! Valentine’s Day is also right around the corner and makes the perfect gift! It’s located in uber trendy Meatpacking District, so grab a bite to eat, take advantage of the High Line or get some shopping in after your life is changed by the exhibit. Who knows, you might get so inspired by the wardrobe The Rolling Stones had, you’ll suddenly want a new wardrobe.
