My favorite book of all time is The Other Boleyn Girl. It’s a historical novel by Philippa Gregory based on the Boleyn
You might have heard of Anne Boleyn in a history class as the second wife of King Henry VIII who was executed on charges of adultery and incest. Yes very juicy story. So the novel is based on the Boleyn family and their life at court trying to catch the eye of King Henry VIII. Now the novel is a bit of a hyperbole but the again a lot of the good stories are.
That is all I’ll say about the book. So if you’re as interested as I in these type of historical novels you should read the book.
Yes read the book and do not watch the movie version of it and I will tell you why.
So me being completely obsessed with this book and I mean truly obsessed (It’s that one novel that I never get tired of reading) I read this novel at least once every year. I would reenact the whole entire novel if I could but I can’t act and… well that’s honestly the only reason why not so you can probably imagine how much I love this novel.
Besides Harry potter, I don’t really like watching movie versions of novels that I have read because honestly, I feel as if they don’t capture the most important parts. But then again this is me being a pain because I probably wouldn’t be able to do it any better.
Okay back to The Other Boleyn Girl. A few years ago after I had read the book a couple times I heard that there was a movie version with Natalie Portman and Scarlet Johansson so I knew I had to give it a chance because I mean come on Natalie Portman AND Scarlet Johansson.
So I watched the movie with an open mind. I cried at the end. Not because I was sad that *SPOILER* Anne got executed. I mean it was sad but not to the point that I’d shed a tear. I cried because it missed so much; I mean SO MUCH.
It was like getting a delicious slice of cake.
Taking a bite out of it.
Closing your eyes to cherish the flavor.
Opening your eyes again and that delicious piece of cake that you wanted to finish just magically disappeared.
Now don’t get me wrong. It was an okay movie. But I had read the book before so the movie just felt incomplete.
So next time you see a book you want to read but you don’t because there’s a movie version out and you’re too lazy to read it…Don’t do it!
“The book was better”
But then again what do i know? I’m just a kid with a keyboard.
