To be honest, the condition of NYC subway is much worse than I thought but I admit that it is the most convenient transportation in the city. Besides the old new equipments, there are many obvious difference between the NYC and Beijing subway.
.Ticket In NYC there is an unlimited metro card from a 7-day and 30-day. But in Beijing, there are only the regular metro card and value card. We don’t have the unlimited card, the difference between regular one and the value one is that when you put more than ¥100 into the card, every time you take the subway, you will get 5% off. What’s more, the regular ticket in NYC doesn’t limit the distance you travel, but in Beijing, the fee is charged due to your distance. And the material of NYC subway card is paper, when I first got it I can hardly believed it was the stuff that I paid for more than $100 cause in Beijing the card is made of plastic, a little bit better than the paper ticket.
.Security examination It is easy to take the NYC subway by just sliding the metro card, but in Beijing every time you take the subway you should have the security check. Although you just put your handbag on the machine, on the rushing hour, there is always a long line. I search the information about why there is no security check in NYC subway, I didn’t find any article about that. Some one says the 24-hour running subway and the huge population make the cost of the security examination extremely high in NYC.
.Transfer Most of the pathways in NYC are paved in the middle of the platform. So sometimes you should pay attention to the entrance of the subway, make sure whether it is to uptown or downtown. Only some of the stations can you easily change the uptown train and downtown train underground. But in China, you can just take the opposite direction metro by walking 3 meters because the waiting area is the middle. Maybe I can’t state it clearly, here is the picture. What’s more, don’t you think the condition in Beijing is much better than that in NYC?…
.Signal There is no signal in the most of the NYC subway, it really brings some problems. For example, if you don’t check the map in advance, you will get completely lost in the station cause your google doesn’t work at such a low level signal. Once my friend and I decided to have dinner at Korea town, after I got the message, I took the line 1 from columbus circle to 34 Street Penn Station. As you know there is no signal underground, when I stepped out the penn station, I got a message 10 minutes ago, she told me that the restaurant in K town was too many people and she changed the meeting place to China town… Then I walk for a distance to take the B D train…The feeling is not so good you know.
