For the second consecutive year, I worked for a theatre festival during the summer. This festival, quite famous in France, in the 2nd after Avignon, it’s located at Sarlat, in Dordogne, a region famous for its history and its food!
Over time, the run has changed. Now it lasts 18 days, with a different spectacle every evening. All the charm of this festival is that it’s in open spaces in three places of the city: behind the cathedral, in an old Abbey, and at the heart of the village, on the city hall square.
Each morning, spectators and actors meet around a discussion in a room located in an old hotel from the 17th century. These meetings are a way to discuss about spectacles but all together, so it’s better! 😉
I didn’t get used to go to theatre, but these 2 summers I discovered that it’s a really powerful way to express messages and to make people aware of many things. Even classic pieces that you know by heart, you studied at school, there is always a new staging and you finally discover new things again!
Unfortunately, it’s quite expensive and during summer holidays, people don’t make theatre a priority. But next year, I’ll be involved in the association which manages the festival and I hope achieve to make changes to attract more and more spectators.
And you, are going to theatre ?
