I’ve always been into make-up and enjoyed watching product reviews, as well tutorials on YouTube. It was entertaining to me. My makeup routine was always simple too, a little bit of eye shadow, some mascara, blush and a hint of lip gloss. I never really cared for lipsticks because they were so creamy and messy when they got smudged. It wasn’t until I started hearing all the buzz about liquid lipsticks that were supposed to be long lasting that I was intrigued. They were all over social media, in multiple tutorials and even then, celebrities were endorsing them. Matte liquid lip sticks were officially the new trend that had every brand competing in coming up with their own version of the formula.
Matte is a velvet-like finish that has really been popular in many aspects of the beauty spectrum already. From matte nail polish, matte eyeshadow, came the best invention yet, matte long lasting liquid lipsticks. I’ve tried several brands like MAC, and Kat Von D, but most recently purchased two of the top competing brands, Anastasia Beverly Hills and Colour Pop.
Anastasia Beverly Hills
I have several liquid lipsticks from this brand and they’re great if you’re looking for a very pigmented lip. The retail for about $20.00 and are available online, in Sephora, Macys, and Ulta. They come in 32 different shades which I think are great for this fall season if you prefer neutral and warm tones. This liquid lipstick is preferable over other brands when it comes to the application; It is fast drying which I find great because once it’s applied it only takes seconds to dry and you’re good to go. This formula was also scentless which I loved because some others tend to get a yucky smell. The con I found with this product was that the formula is a little too dry for me. I found it very uncomfortable after wearing it for about 2 hours. It started to crack and was shedding small flakes which was turn off, especially for it being a higher end brand.
Compared to ABH, I prefer Colour Pop. I find that not only is the retail price of $6.00 more affordable but it lasts longer. From what I know, this brand can only be found online, but I may be wrong. Colour Pop offers a wide variety of 42 shades and on your first purchase you receive $5.00 coupon, that’s a win-in. I absolutely love this brand because you’re getting more than what you pay for. It is of premium quality for such a great price. Of course depending on the amount of hours you have it on you will need to retouch it because it starts to fade in the middle of the lip but it still looks great. But overall, there was very minimal flaking and absolutely no bleeding. The ultra-matte lip is very long lasting, I sometimes struggle just taking it off, I highly recommend it!
