For years, I’ve found Call of Duty to be an questionable game series. The series has had it’s good games and bad games. Last year Call of Duty Black Ops 3 was released on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. The last two Black Ops games were actually great games, so did Black Ops 3 continue this trend? Well, somewhat.
When I started playing multiplayer mode, I didn’t really like the battlefields as much as the previous battlefields in Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. However, I did get use to them and found that they weren’t as bad as a thought.
The graphics and overall gameplay was good and exciting. One of the changes of Black Ops 3 was the ability to run on walls. I enjoyed this ability although it is quite hard to kill enemies while doing this. My favorite addition to multiplayer were the specialist. Rather than have your own solider like previous games, you now choose from nine characters who each have a special weapon and ability that only that character can use. I think this was a great addition as it added a new twist to Call of Duty. My particular favorite was the Firebreak specialist. It was amazing to use his flamethrower against the other team especially when there are multiple enemies in the same area. It was also great to have a flamethrower since there hasn’t been a flamethrower in Call of Duty since the first Black Ops game that was released in 2010. Also, I enjoyed how each specialist, in addition to having a special weapon and ability, they each have there own personality, which is a great change from the boring solider who is basically silent in the previous Call of Duty games.
The campaign mode was pretty much the same as Advanced Warfare. I wasn’t really interested in the campaign. It wasn’t bad, but I just found myself playing through it without having fun.
The zombies mode in Black Ops 3 is by far the greatest part of the game. After the disastrous zombie modes the previous two Call of Duty games Advanced Warfare and Ghost. (Oh I’m sorry extinction mode in Ghost. I’ll save the review for that disaster of a shooter game for other day) Not only did zombies have and actually compelling story, it had several new improvements, new abilities, and FINALLY was sent in the past. Which is arguably what made Call of Duty Black Ops 1, the last Call of Duty game to have a great zombies mode. I played the zombies mode over and over again as I kept having a blast with it.
Overall, I don’t think Call of Duty Black Ops 3 was a great as the first two Black Ops games. However I do think it was a fun and adventurous game that changed from previous Call of Duty games. I do feel the critics gave Black Ops 3 a higher score than it should have received. (Like they always do for Call of Duty games.) I would give Black Ops 3 an 8 out of 10.
