Ever since video games have been created, there have been Star Wars games. Last year, the Star Wars Battlefront reboot was released the Xbox One and Playstation 4. There has been previous editions of Star Wars Battlefront from Lucas Arts in the past. However, because Disney shut down Lucas Arts in 2013, Electronic Arts (EA) received the rights to produce Star Wars video games. Although it seemed bad when Lucas Arts was shut down, after EA and DICE released Battlefront, most gamers, including myself, were glad it was.
When I started playing Battlefront, I felt like I was playing a Battlefield game in the Star Wars universe, essentially, thats what Battlefront is. The game developer DICE is the producer of the Battlefield series, so if you like Battlefield, your love this game.
Within minutes of starting the game, I was hooked by all the action that was going on at once. In multiplayer, you play on the Rebel Alliance or the Imperials. You can choose from a list of weapons that were featured in Star Wars. The battlefields were different planets that were in the star wars movies and in the game, they look fantastic. Overall, all the graphics in the game look spectacular.
You also have the ability to use various vehicles from the series such as speed bikes and AT-ATs. I myself don’t use these vary often because I preferred to be on the ground capturing bases and shooting enemies. Also, you can play as heroes or villains from Star Wars depending what team your on. If your on the Rebels team, you can play as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, or Princess Leia. If your on the Imperials team, you can play as Darth Vader, Boba Fett, or Emperor Palpatine. This is by far my favorite part of the game. It was so much fun to fight as these characters, especially Han Solo who can rapid fire his blaster so you can shoot numerous enemies within seconds.
One thing I didn’t like when I started playing Battlefront were the servers. When it was released, it’s servers only worked when your connection was great. Rather than just slow down like most other games do, your character would literally stop moving until the signal improved. Which in most cases cause you to be killed because your stopped. This was one of the worst ideas in a video game I had every seen. Thankfully, this was later fixed for the most part in an update to the game about a month after it was released. Another thing I didn’t like was weapon aiming. Sometimes, if the weapon has the heat sink, it takes about a second to aim at an enemy and shoot. However, the aimer is often faulty by losing the aim even if the enemy is still in position or sometimes shoots the wrong target.
Overall, I felt Star Wars Battlefront was a great game that was almost like getting a new Battlefield game. It was fun and exciting and EA and DICE were definitely the perfect studios to give the Star Wars video game rights too. There have been mixed reviews about Battlefront with the average score being a seven out of ten. However I felt the game deserves an eight out of ten.
