New York’s Green Diamond

The semester is almost over. Summer is (hopefully) finally coming. Almost time to relax!!

One place is to me the place to be for amazing summer sunny afternoons : Central Park. I love this place, it is incredible. I felt so much in love with this park that I’ve decided to write an important research paper on it.

I think that every typical New Yorker knows that this park was a man-made creation, that before the end of the 19th century, it was inexistent. But it wasn’t my case and when I learned that, it increased even more my fascination for this huge place.

While during my research, I discovered that this 843 acres park hasn’t an easy story.  Here is a little summary of the highlights of my researches about the 150 years park’s life. The park was created in the middle of 19

The park was created in the middle of 19th century by a raising desire to have a space in the center of Manhattan, dedicated to nature, in order to offer to the people of New York a space where they could rest from their urban life, while enjoying a natural atmosphere. Unfortunately, after years of work, improvements and restorations, the park has known several phases of decline. The most harmful one took place in the second half of the 20th century, which led to the destruction of the beauty that he park had to offer. Thankfully, some small groups had the will to find a way to rescue Central Park and from them, has resulted the creation of the Central Park Conservancy that has succeeded to rescue this incredible symbol of the city of New York. Today, the Central Park Conservancy is more than ever, active in the park’s protection and restoration. It is to this non-profit organization, that we owe what the park looks like today and so the constant attraction that exists toward the park.

I think that today, without Central Park, New York wouldn’t have been the world’s capital that it is today. It is one of the most important symbols of the city and I think that it deserves this status.

One thing is to remember from my post and it is easy : when the weather will decide to be nicer, just don’t wait and go take a nap on the beautiful lawns that the park has to offer.

It has been created for you, New Yorkers !!
