I tried to not make a big deal out of it (mostly because I felt like it was cool to act like I didn’t care) but I can’t think about anything else right now so… I’m writing about it! Guys, I went to Coachella!!!
This is how everything started. A few months ago, I was talking to my friends that live in LA and were (obviously) going to Coachella, like they do every year. For them it’s easy and convenient because it’s so close and all. For me it was definitely more of a process! First of all, NYC is NOT a 2h drive from Palm Springs, and I HAD TO book my flight in advance if I wanted to find a good deal and not spend what I make in 3 years – we’re students let’s face: the struggle is real! I was lucky enough to find a flight that was not crazy expensive, and that was also working with my schedule at work/school. No way I was not doing it! Once that was booked, I easily found a room to stay at my friend’s house in the desert. After all this logistic figured out, the real fun begun!!
Prep, looks and all of this.
Coachella was (and is now, still more than ever) SUCH a scene! It’s one of this place where you go, to have fun obivisouly, but part of the thing is to SEE people and also TO BE SEEN. I had in mind all of the cool outfits I saw for many years on social media, when I was in France, and going was not even an option. I very quickly started to cut a few pairs of jeans, cropped a couple sweaters and thought about how bohem-chic I could be! I was pretty resourceful and I came up with a couple outfits that were, I’m not afraid to say it: ON FLEEK.
The « good light » moment.
One funny thing about the festival is all the celebrity pictures you have in mind when you think about the event! You (for sure) know what I’m talking about! Everybody saw at some point a picture of Paris Hilton, ecstatic, running in the grass in a flowy maxi, shades on, having the time of her life. Or a picture of Jared Leto, walking around with a bandana in his hair, looking too cool for school. Well… The crazy think is, when you are at the festival, you understand how fake these pictures are. Not that these people are not having fun (everybody is, trust me!) but I noticed that all the celebrities are leaving the VIP area at sunset, when the light becomes VERY photogenic. At this point it basically is a photoshoot. Everyone is posing and making sure they are getting the perfect shot for all of their social media platforms. I did too, don’t worry, the light was too good!
The question everyone asks: What was your favorite performance?
Something else was very noticeable and I had no idea before I went. People will ask you, get ready: What was your favorite performance? You know how in NYC everyone is asking you « what do you do » with a slightly bored face? It’s the same thing. It’s a social thing that you do. So I was asked (roughly 17 times a day) what my favorite performance was. I really don’t have a good answer to that. If you really want to know, I loved Disclosure and Sia but really, everyone was amazing. I mean… Rihanna making a surprise appearance… WHAT!!?! Crazy!
Coming back, crying and stuff.
The horrible part, I’m sure you guessed it, was flying back to NYC on Monday. It was not only sad to leave all of my friends, but it was literally painful to be back at work, at school, trapped between 4 walls, under a synthetic light doing boring stuff like working and stuff… You know! I felt like I was going home after summer camp. Tragic!
I’m so thankful I met so many amazing people. Friends of friends that I can’t wait to see again. I have to confess that I was so depressed on Tuesday that I use all of my miles to book a round trip to LA next weekend… It’s not going to be Coachella, but at least I’ll be hanging out with them for 2 days! I can’t wait for next year. Really, it was one of the funniest experience of my life.
