April, this tricky month when winter is definitely over, summer dreams begin, long wanders in Central Park/across the Hudson River begin to be a huge part of your schedule. In short, Life outside warm inside places seems to be possible again and the happiness is so present in your mind. BUT NOT – this is just an illusion – end of April rimes with the beginning of the first finals and other important papers. The graduation day is day by day closer and the pressure to succeed begins to be so strong that it is almost unbearable.
It is now time to say STOP to any kind of stress and take some rest in order to be more productive. Here are some ideas to help in a difficult end of semester student life.
1) Take advance in your assignments
For a lot of people it is so hard to schedule their work, but it is actually one of the most important thing to do to avoid any rushed paper writing or final review.
During weekends try to do as much as possible assignments in one day. Then you will see that it is so pleasant to enjoy an entire sunny afternoon without even think about this assignment that you absolutely have to finish by the end of the day.
2) Take time for yourself
Have in mind “Work Work Work Work Work” is a good thing but you also need to think that you are not a machine and your body (as your brain) won’t let you spend your days to work (and what kind of fool does that anyway??). Remember that it is as important to have good session of work as go for a walk in a park, enjoy the sun in a beautiful afternoon, watch an episode of your favorite TV show or simply take a drink with the ones you love.
But careful, don’t follow this advice either too much, the abuse of chill can be harmful for your results!!
3) Sleep !
It is 2 am, your paper for the morning after isn’t finish yet. Sorry but it is too late, just go to sleep and find a good excuse to tell to your professor. It is useless to kill your night and make you sleep only 2 hours. You will have the threat to don’t wake up and be that tired that it will follow you for days and have a bad effect on your other classes and assignments.
4) Eat well
It is proved, what we eat as a direct effect on our brain. Just eat as healthy as possible (but you can still enjoy a little pleasure in reward of a good work session). It is simple and you will see the result on your concentration and on your daily energy.
5) Think about the after
This period is hard and the end seems so far and impossible. But think that it is just a nightmare for a few weeks and then you will be free, FREE (until a next huge stressful step in your life…). Just think to your summer vacations, your return in your native country, the beautiful summer weather that you will enjoy in NYC.
Don’t panic it is nearly over !
Note that any other advice is welcomed! 🙂
