So today I just finished a game that has gotten critical acclaim since its release about three years ago. What game?! You ask excitedly. Well, I’m talking about Grand Theft Auto V. I have played a couple of different Grand Theft Auto games in my lifetime, but never fully completed any of them. Even though GTA V came out three years ago and sold nearly $800 million worth of copies within 24 hours, I did not get the game until quite recently. I was pretty excited to play because most of my friends raved about how good the story and multiplayer are.
The game follows the lives of three different guys, Michael, Trevor and Franklin. Michael is a middle-aged, wealthy man who was a former bank robber, but gave up his ways after striking a deal with the government on a failed bank heist. Trevor, also middle-aged, was in the failed bank heist with Michael, but managed to escape and was forced live in hiding since the heist. The final protagonist is Franklin, a young former gangster in search of success. The story of GTA V does a fantastic job of intertwining the lives of the three characters while also giving you a unique perspective on each character’s life. The aspects of the game that I enjoyed most were driving around in nice cars, flying helicopters and just goofing around the fictional city of Los Santos. However, as great as the story is, playing online is much more fun in my opinion because you’re able to do all these crazy car stunts and heists with your friends. For example, one time when my friend and I were playing together, we managed to pull off a crazy stunt by accident and for the next few days, we kept bringing up how awesome the stunt was.
As I keep talking about video games, there is the recurring theme of games bringing people together as I mentioned in last week’s post Hitting All the Right Notes. For the past few weeks, there has been a countless number of nights where my friends and I have been laughing at something crazy that happened then talking about it for the next few days. One of my favorite aspects GTA V is that it is so easy just to pick up and play even if you have no background in gaming. So if you want a fun game to play for a bit and explore a fictional city, grab a friend (or just a controller) and play some Grand Theft Auto V!
