I don’t know how many of you are binge watchers like me, but most of my time is spent on Netflix. Whether it’s relaxing during the weekend, or working on a homework assignment (yes i’m actually watching Netflix right now typing this. What am I watching you ask? I’m watching Parks and Recreation for like the 4th time in a row) I love to have something on in the background. I’ve watched a lot of the shows on Netflix several times over but a lot of my favorites are actually Netflix original shows. When Netflix first started it was a DVD rental business like Blockbuster (Rest in peace) but today it has evolved into an online streaming service while also producing their own original shows. There are a crap ton of Netflix shows now but here are some of my favorites.
House of Cards – If you love watching ruthless, manipulative, and power hungry people you will love this show. It’s a political drama that revolves around Frank and Claire Underwood (Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright) and their lust for power. If you’re not well versed in political jargon then it’s kind of difficult to follow but the writers still make it easy to understand the plot. It’s difficult to summarize this show without giving away too many spoilers, but it’s an amazing show and definitely worth a watch.
Sense8 – Ok, this is one of the most original ideas i’ve seen for a show and i loved every single minute of it. So this show was created by the Wachowski Sisters (Creators of The Matrix) and it involves 8 strangers around the globe suddenly being connected. Similar to telepathy, each of the members within the Sense 8 group have mental ties to each other. They can visit each other through their mind, have conversations with each other, and even feel the emotions another person is feeling. There is only 1 season but it revolves around introducing the “Sensates” and them exploring their new found gift. The show is incredibly diverse featuring all different types of ethnicities, sexual identities, and sexual orientations. It’s such a remarkable unique show and i’m DYING to watch the second season.
Making a Murderer – This how was very interesting to watch and I actually binged watched the entire season in a day. This show is a documentary about Steven Avery, a man who was convicted of sexual assault back in 1985 but proven to be innocent. He spent 18 years in jail and was under investigation for a murder trial shortly after his release. The documentary follows his court trial and brings to light interesting information that could make or break the case. This show really knows how to hook you and forces you to think about all the different scenarios. Definitely an amazing watch.
These are not the only Netflix original shows out there I enjoyed but these are most certainly my top 3. Some other shows include Orange is the New Black, Daredevil, Master of None, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt etc.
