This year I decided that I would stay away from social media as much as possible. The reason? I simply waste too much time in it.
Time is a gift
Time is money
Time is precious
Since I have been abusing my time on Insta, Facebook and Youtube, my New Year’s resolution was to stay away from it altogether. I was going to call it “2016- My Media Free year”. I was so serious about this, that I was going to write a book at the end of 2016 about a life without social media. Instead, I would use the time that I normally waste on media and invest it in learning. My biggest motivation was to learn about new cultures. I would use this time to read classical literature, watch documentaries about science, and learn new culinary, and artistic skills. All in all, this year was going to be about learning things that mainstream media doesn’t teach you.
Ironically enough, I got a job as a Social Media Manager and Fashion blogger for a high luxury brand 3 weeks later. But that is not all, there was a problem with my school schedule and I had to drop a class and pick up a Social Media class one week after the semester started. In this class we are graded based on our personal social media and blog. Needless to say, I think this year I am going to be on every platform of social media every single day.
In all honesty, I am actually really exited about this. I devoted this year to learning and education. It is very clear to me that I will be learning PLENTY about the power of social media. Although I am not going to be learning about the things I thought I would, I will be learning other things that are just as important. If I want to work in the communication- business field I will obviously be using social media (why did I ever think getting rid of social media was a good idea?) . So I might as well learn everything I can regarding this subject.
Instead of using Social Media irresponsibly (or not using it at all ) I will have an opportunity to look at it from a business perspective. The class is going to teach me how to properly make posts to attract a large audiences. And I can, very conveniently, use it in real life and apply it to the blog and social media I manage for the company. I guess my life really lined up in a way I wasn’t expecting. Oh yeah, and since I know you are wondering, go check out the blog I manage – persamanlifestyle.com .
Things I learned this week…
- After looking at many High fashion Ads- I have a clear idea of what high fashion posts are supposed to look like
- In class I learned that blogs should be geared towards storytelling and NOT selling
- How to link other blogs- I did it while writing this blog and it was 500 times easier I thought it would be
