This week, I decided to write about something completely different and irrelevant to what I’ve been posting thus far. It just came across my mind this morning and it is something that I would like to point out and get some feedback on. The topic I am going to discuss may be offensive to some readers so I apologize in advance. Nonetheless, I believe that it is in my best interest to get it out there as soon as possible.
Without further saying, as I was heading to school this morning, I came across a gay couple who were holding hands and minding their own business until a group of young men pointing at the two men calling them names and laughing at the top of their lungs. Not knowing what to do, one member of the couple stopped to tell the group gentlemen (Honestly I don’t think they deserve the title “gentlemen”) to mind their own business. The next moment I heard the term “faggot” burst out of one of the men’s mouth which really got me upset because although I am not gay and will be getting married very soon; I have close friends and family members who are and was raised to never judge one’s sexual orientation. Although it was none of my business to start off with, I had to tell the group of rude gentlemen that the comments you guys are making are not funny at all and that they were being very rude.
The group of men just rapidly walked off laughing making racial remarks to me then and the couple gave me an acknowledgment of gratitude where after I walked off to school. I come from South Korea where gays aren’t easily still accepted in society due to cultural issues, but is making great improvements in accepting gays into society which I find is very advantageous and another step closer to equality for future generations. I don’t find it entertaining or humorous to generalize and stereotype gay people of all genders. If the United States has accepted gay marriage, what I want to know is, why is it so obvious that some people are still against it? Well to sum things up, although I may of not taken proper actions to support the gay community, I hope that regardless of being straight or gay, we all should accept one another as human beings into society.
I asked the two gentlemen if I can take a picture of them from the back because I thought that it would be a good picture for this weeks post. Here is Jason and Gerald happily together since 2011.
