A music release that I have been waiting for has finally made it’s way onto iTunes. Growing up, MTV was one of my favorite channels to watch and Making the Band was one of the most memorable shows that they aired. Danity Kane, a 5 member girl group, was spawned from Making the Band. They sold two platinum albums, had a few hit singles and unfortunately disbanded shortly after their second album was released. That was back in 2008, fast forward to 2015, two of the girls have formed a dance-pop duo called Dumblonde, and have officially released an album. Dumblonde visits several dance-pop eras on this energy filled album. While they don’t bring much to the table vocally, they make up for it in super cool production and versatility. They are quite resourceful and use what they have and what they know to the best of their ability. They resort to nostalgia and include sounds of the past while creating a sound of their own. There are also a few R&B/Hip-Hop tinged songs that mix in so well with the dance genre. Surprisingly, the duo has succeeded at creating a specific sound for themselves without reverting to any of the sounds that remind you of their former 5 part girl group. Some of the tracks happen to be hit and miss, but it is very enjoyable if you are a dance-pop lover (which, I’m not much of a fan of, but I really appreciate this body of work). My favorites include: Tender Green Life, Remember Me, Waiting On You, and Carry On.
