“Do you ever just look up?”, my friend Mike asked me pointing upward.
I followed his gaze and looked at the sky, a piercing blue, peeking through the towering buildings.
And it hit me.
I’ve lived in Manhattan for almost a year now and amidst all the running to class/ to the grocery store/ to catch the train I do, I’ve barely taken a second to just simply look up.
We are talking about a city that thousands of people pour into every year just to get a glimpse of; a place that thousands of other people are only dreaming about being a part of. And here I am, living a life right out of Sex and the City (not at all) and barely making an effort to breathe the air, look up at the buildings, feel small, be in awe.
Saying you live in New York City isn’t much if all you did was run around so you’re on time. Take a second, slow down, live life.
Even if it means you’re a little late to class.
