-To Katrine. This may get sappy and I will try not to make it just about Katrine but in essence, this post will be about how people come into our lives for a purpose and we must not ignore their presence, rather we must embrace ever person that we meet and learn from them in every way we can.
Katrine celebrated her 24th birthday this past weekend and I am happy to say that I not only got to share in the celebration of her birthday, but that I have found in her a friend I will have for years to come. Even after just spending one school year of classes together, I know I met her for a reason.
Everyone bashes NYIT all the time and everyone has their opinion about the school but I have loved this school from the start. The experiences it has given me and the future opportunities it provides are priceless. Being a strongly international school I have also had the great privilege of meeting people from all over the world, like our lovely Danish friend, Katrine.
I think one of the greatest thing you can do for yourself through college, and even beyond, is create connections with everyone you encounter. Not just meeting people that you will forget about once they aren’t in your life as often as in school, but creating connections with people you will have the rest of your life. The people you meet in college are the ones that see you at your ABSOLUTE worst (finals week has me like #DEAD) and the ones that see you at your best (Friday night club outfit). These are the people that either love you or hate you, that either tolerate you in class, or will pay the teacher to not have to do a group project with you. In the future these will be the people you visit across the country or across the world when the “real world” starts getting to you. You will share bottles of wine and old memories together in the years to come and they will mean more to you than you can understand now.
Basically, enjoy your college years. Enjoy your 20s as much as you can. Look at every person you meet as an opportunity for a lifetime connection.
Happy Birthday, Good Luck in Denmark, and it’s not goodbye, it’s I’ll See You Soon! Much Love Katrine, thanks for being the baddest B!#$h and my spirit animal through life. Can not wait to see you in September and in Denmark ASAP.
