Indeed, the famous Chinatown district is celebrating its New Year. Celebrations are very colorful: Goodbye the year of the horse, hello year of the goat!
The beginning of the festivities started on Saturday with the firecrackers ceremony in Roosevelt Park, between Grand Street and Hester Street. The participants set fire to hundreds of firecrackers, intended to drive away evil spirits. Then, time for music and dance before a bedecked parade through the streets of Chinatown, led by the dancing dragon.
The festivities then continued on Sunday with the 16th edition of the traditional parade of the Chinese New Year. The parade began at the corner of Mott Street and Hester Street to browse the streets of Chinatown. The weather was colored: It was raining confettis!!
