Award season is officially over, and I am left with a bitter taste in my mouth. While I love all the award shows, let us be real… the Oscars are the most important. They are the most prestigious, and they are the awards everyone remembers years from now. Now, there are a few things I am extremely happy about. First of all, the women this year were incredible. More specifically, Moore finally got a statue she deserved YEARS ago.
What I really cannot believe is that Boyhood did not win. I am putting all the hype I heard about each movie to the side, and basing this off of how I felt when I watched the movies nominated this year. Boyhood, which is a film I saw months ago now, is still haunting me. It is a movie that was so simple yet so touching that I still wonder how the simplicity of that film can STILL be so revolutionary?! I will say, Birdman was an extraordinary film. Any other year, I would of said it was well deserved.
There is a part of me that wonders if the film meant so much to me because it was recorded during the exact time that I went through those stages in my life. Therefore, it was like watching my own life so far flash before my eyes. I will stand firmly by my belief that the academy made one of the biggest mistakes they have made in years. Boyhood will be a film that I will be talking about for years to come. Boyhood will be a film MANY will be talking about for years to come.
