Finals Week is here. It’s a bittersweet time – on one hand, the semester is just about over and you can already imagine lying down on the beach (or on a lounge chair on your rooftop) with, hopefully, the only worry on your mind being what’s for lunch and dinner; on the other hand, it’s finals week.
Final assignments, final papers, final exams. . . there’s a lot going on. For me, whenever I try to sit down and study or work on an assignment, it always seems like there’s more I need to do (and do right away): the dishes in the kitchen need to be cleaned, laundry needs to be done, living room needs to be vacuumed, or there’s a sudden need for my clothes to be reorganised and color coordinated. It’s not easy to concentrate on just one thing (or at all) is basically the main point here. What I’ve done is to come up with a conducive system and environment for studying while at home.
These are my essentials for studying:
1. A large cup of coffee
2. Sufficient lighting
3. A cardboard box and cat treats to keep the cat occupied and away from my laptop
5. 8tracks playlists
7. A large cup of tea (about 2 hours after the coffee)
It isn’t much of a list but it has everything I need – caffeine, music, and ambient sounds to provide some background noise but without the distractions. It has worked for me before, and in a couple of weeks I’ll know if it continues to serve me well.
Do you guys have a specific environment or system for studying? Study tips and recommendations are much welcomed and needed. All the best to everyone on their finals!
