New York is a very amazing city but sometime it is true that we need to breathe. Above all when you are not obviously used to live in such a big city. Since I moved here, I often felt the need to be in a peaceful place, without sound, without people, just alone with myself. I always had this trick: I don’t believe in God but when I need to a quiet place I go to a church. It is generally very calm and it is so well to be sometime peaceful in your mind and in your body. Everybody need that kind of moment right ?

1. The Garden at St. Luke’s in the Field in the West Village
This garden is absolutely awesome: very small in the heart of the West Village, it is very peaceful and there is so many trees and flowers ! You’ll find it at the 487 Hudson Street.
2. St John the Divine in Harlem
St John the Divine is typically the kind of church I was talking about: it is absolutely huge but also very calm and almost… divine ?

3. Roosevelt Island
Very beautiful, it is THE island to avoid tourists. Moreover, you can go to this island with a cable car which allows a nice panorama over Manhattan !
4. The Little Red Lighthouse in Fort Washington Park in Washington Heights
Close to the Hudson River, it is a little Lighthouse that you will find at the Washington Bridge. + nice walk through the park

5. Morris-Jumel Mansion in Washington Heights
And as you are very close, don’t miss the oldest mansion in Manhattan. One can visit it (5dols) and have a very nice walk in the garden.
