This Saturday, 19th will be the 8th edition of the Record Store Day. If you have never heard about it, it is a special day that has been created in 2007 in order to promote independent record stores and the beautiful object which is the vinyl.
This event has spread quickly since then and is now international. The goal is to encourage people to go to their local record store(s) and buy records. But not only records they could buy every day! Hundreds of special and exclusive records or reissues are produced and sold especially for this day and only during this day. This is why it became such an infatuation in the music industry and for the music fans. Concerts and other festivities are also happening throughout the day and even during the whole week-end. Besides, each year there is a special ambassador; last year it was Jack White and this year it’s Chuck D.
Last year, I actually had the chance to be an intern at a record store in Paris (Balades Sonores) during this period of time so I was able to discover all those great releases a few days before (and put the prices on eeeeevery vinyl) and to be part of the organization, the events and the sales during d-day. It was intense but incredibly great!
This year again, a lot of great records are coming out like David Bowie, Charles Bradley, Green Day, The Doors, Paramore, The Cure/Dinosaur Jr (side by side), Disclosure, Nirvana, The Ramones, Oasis, Tame Impala, Foals, The Yardbirds, The Flaming Lips, and many many more. You can check the whole list over HERE
So, are you on to go out on record hunting this week-end? You can find all the participating stores over HERE
