Are you a do it yourselfer? If you are I would like to know which store you prefer for your material and tool needs.
I am more of a Home Depot person. I like them better because most of their stores maintain the same main department separations in roughly the same area in each store. This means that weather I’m here in New York or in out in Timbuktu I can walk in and find what I’m looking for. Then there is the staff. The staff at Home Depot seems to be more knowledgeable then any place else. For instance I walked in needing a patch for my metal front door and asked an associate who didn’t know what I should use but brought to some he thought might. After talking with this guy who recommended me to a metal epoxy the first associate walked me over and then before leaving set me up with another associate that would be better to assist me in picking out the proper epoxy.
Lowes on the other hand has never really been helpful. Although they are setup in a similar manor to Home Depot I can never readily find what I went there for. Then the customer service is lack luster at best. The event that reinforced my dislike happened on this past Friday. I come from a family of do it yourselfers and as such we handle most small upgrades in our home. One of these is the replacement of the sink in the half bath off my parents bedroom. My parents special ordered the sink they wanted in the size they needed, from Lowes, they had it shipped directly to my house. I arrives on Friday I go to bring it inside and hear the sound of porcelain hitting porcelain. After calling Lowe’s customer service that said bring the sink back to the store where it was order to have it take care is head to the nearest store. Once there I head with the destroyed sink in tow to customer service, where the employee lacked the want to help me. She claims that I have to go to plumbing to reorder the sink after she does the return. I now head to their plumbing department which I had to do laps around the store be fore even seeing the large over head sign. Once there is no-one in the area to help me, so now I have to find an employee to help me. Once I found an employee I end up spending twenty minuets while the employee who is unfamiliar with plumbing to find the sink in there system she tells me I know have to go back to customer service to pay because my parents had used a five percent offer to lessen the cost and she cant reapply the discount. Once I get back to customer service the lady that was already lacking the care to help me the first time starts to tell the associate that helped me order that she could just apply the discount. After five minuets of her telling her basically she doesn’t know her job, not only in front of me but to other customers, she being to help me with such an attitude that I no longer wanted to spend the money there.
Its employees like that that can turn customers away. That rant above was the final straw for me with Lowe’s. If you have an experience with them that may change your mind please leave it below.
