It’s been 5 years since reality tv introduced us to the family household name Kardashian, most notable Kimberly (Kim Kardashian). E!’s hit rated reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians have brought in millions of viewers from home to watch the crazy antics and lavish lifestyle the Kardashians; Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and momager Kris Jenner all display on national television. Though, it’s no secret talks between other celebrities and regular joes (such as myself) continue to question Kim Kardashian’s notoriety.
If you can recall right before the first season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, an explicit sex tape got leaked displaying RnB singer Ray J and Kim’s intimate private moments. Both parties deny releasing the sex tape intentionally and claim someone close to them stole it and shopped the tape in hopes to get money. Kim Kardashian using her legal mind frame from her late great father, Robert Kardashian Sr. (attorney of OJ Simpson during the Simpson Trials) sued and agreed upon a settlement that would earn Kim Kardashian some bucks each time the video was sold.
In response to the incident and the premiere of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, people assumed Kim Kardashian and her family became famous from Kim’s alleged sex tape. In an all real aspect, these assumptions are untrue. Kim Kardashian, however did not become “FAMOUS” from her sex tape she actually became “INFAMOUS” for it. There is indeed a difference between being famous and being infamous.
Upon my research on Kim Kardashian and watching videos of her bring up her relevance in the public eye here’s my understanding of how she became famous. Before the sex tape, Kim Kardashian was a notable fashion and wardrobe stylist. Kim Kardashian styled many A-list musicians, actors and actresses. In doing so, Kim also took heed to revamp the closets of some of hollywood’s biggest names. Kim Kardashian was first seen on reality tv as Paris Hilton’s wardrobe stylist/best friend in 2006 on Paris’s joint reality show with Nicole Richie titled The Simple Life: Till Death Do Us Part. From then on Paris Hilton took Kim Kardashian under her wing into the spotlight as well as Kim’s famously ex boyfriends whom paparazzi seemed to become intrigued by. To also add, before the sex tape and hit reality family tv show Kim Kardashian and sisters Kourtney and Khloe all owned an upscale clothing boutique DASH in Calabasas, California; regular shoppers and even celebrities shopped at the high end boutique; this is how Kim Kardashian really became famous.
The infamous part comes from Kim’s sex tape. No matter how much Kim tries to steer away from the sex tape controversy it will always be brought up for conversation. The sex tape is something infamously talked about as a conversation piece about Kim Kardashian. During a recent 2012, Oprah Winfrey interview Kim stated she is not oblivious to the sex tape and she understands people are going to have opinions and views on the situation about her stardom. What Kim wants us to know is the sex tape was a mistake in her life she regrets, she was young and in love; everyone isn’t perfect. When Oprah asked what she thought of the word “FAMOUS“, Kim’s response respectfully stated she did not like the term famous and does not use the word to describe herself.
It’s 2012, Kim Kardashian is a household mogul name with a lot of products and companies such as; a clothing line, perfumes, shoe line, makeup, dietary supplements and much more under her name along with her sisters Kourtney and Khloe. Keeping Up With The Kardashians just wrapped their seventh season with a few spinoffs including a new one coming January 2013; Kourtney & Kim: Take Miami. There’s nothing that’s stopping those Kardashians from getting their bucks and making their names stay on the tips of our tongues; Whether it be Kourtney’s relationship with baby father Scott Disick, Khloe’s trouble with conceiving, Kris Jenner and her marriage to Olympic Gold Medalist Bruce Jenner or even better Kim’s up and downward spiral string of relationships (whom she now dates rapper Kanye West). People and critics are going to talk, but it’s the numbers of viewers that keeps these dolls rolling; a dedicated 4.6 million.
