So last week I told all of you that I’m into photography, cars and tech. This week I’m going to dive a little into the tech side of me and hopefully help some of you out. It has come to my attention that many of the people I know have had trouble adding their NYIT e-mail to their phones. I’m going to show you how to do it on an android (I imagine the steps/settings would be similar on iOS/Iphone, but unfortunately I don’t have one to test on).
So here we go!
NOTE: If you choose you can do the following steps first, but I have found that NYIT has a weird system setup. For me to have been able to set mine up the very first time, I had to change my password to my NYIT account. NYIT has instructions for this here: https://register.nyit.edu/reset/how_to_change_your_password.pdf
First, log in to your nyit e-mail account. When you’re logged in, click on the “gear” symbol on the right and then settings:
Next, click the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” button. On this page, Enable IMAP. Then scroll down and click save.
You’re now down with your e-mail side of it. Time to grab your phone!
Open up your App Drawer (you want to see where all of your phones applications are). You will then look for the application “Email” (this could vary depending on manufacturer, it may say Corporate E-mail or something like that. It is a separate application from g-mail!)
Hopefully you’ve managed to get this far. Now after you tap on the E-mail Icon, you should have an option to enter your account information. Once you’ve entered your e-mail and password, click MANUAL SETUP.
Your next screen should have an option to select POP3, IMAP and Exchange. You want to use IMAP. Once you have clicked this, enter the following info and then click next (or just look at the pictures):
- IMAP Server – imap.gmail.com
- Port – 993
- Security Type – SSL/TLS
After you’ve clicked Next, you will be presented with another screen. Enter the information found below in the screenshot (just make sure it’s YOUR username/password and not mine =P).
You’re just about done! I promise! Here is what the next two screens will look like. You can follow the same settings if you wish. Just keep clicking next as you work your way through and you’ll be all set.
Congrats, if you followed this through you should be successfully setup on your phone. If you’re having an issue, comment below and I would certainly try and help you out.
